About & Sources
Any Red Flags helps parents quickly find content information before a child reads a book.
Beta content guides
Each short guide uses five categories: Violence, Language, Drugs/Alcohol, Sexual, and Spiritual. “Sexual” also includes romance, nudity, and gender or sexual-identity content. “Spiritual” includes magic, occult practices, gods, religion, and faith themes.
The guides are in beta. They are original summaries of the sources linked with each book, not replacements for the full reviews. “None listed” means no concrete concern was identified in the consulted sources for that category; it does not guarantee that the book contains none. These summaries are based on reviews, not a claim that every book was read in full. Parents decide what fits their family; no age rating is required.
Priority 1,000
This coverage list combines reader interest, current bestseller signals, publisher longevity, annual middle-grade selections, and Newbery recognition. It is a research priority list—not a claim that exact sales ranks are publicly known.
Signals come from relevant Goodreads reader lists, Publishers Weekly children’s bestseller and annual middle-grade selections, Penguin’s Middle Grade Bestsellers catalog, the American Library Association’s Newbery records, and the CC BY-SA 4.0 Goodbooks-10k dataset. Obvious box sets, placeholders, non-books, picture-book-only entries, and clearly adult titles are excluded.
Book identification
ISBN information and cover images come from Google Books and Open Library.
Review sources
Each guide links to its cited book-specific reviews and supporting sources. Buttons do not send you to general search results.
- Plugged In
- Good Book Mom
- Squeaky Clean Reviews
- Rated Reads
- Common Sense Media
- Kirkus and other established human-written reviews
- Goodreads and Amazon reader reports
Guides prioritize Plugged In and Christian review sites, then other established human-written reviews. Goodreads and Amazon reviews are secondary evidence: a concern is used only when multiple readers report it or another source corroborates it. One anonymous comment is not treated as fact. Every researched guide links to its cited sources. Any Red Flags is not affiliated with or endorsed by these organizations.
Corrections and missing guides
Parents can privately report missing details or inconsistencies. Submissions are checked before a guide changes. When a searched book has no guide, its title or ISBN is submitted to the host so the most-needed gaps can be researched first.
